President's Column 02/05/2026

There have been several conferences since the last newsletter: the NETZeroAICT meeting in conjunction with EUSOMII in Greece, RAD-Aid in Washington DC, and RSNA. Each conference has its own distinct audience and gives unique opportunities to learn and network. EUSOMII, which I consider the European counterpart of SIIM, was intimate; there were many opportunities to connect, learn, and hear from great speakers. The NetZeroAICT meeting was focused on reducing contrast using AI. RAD-aid is my favorite conference, as a few hundred like-minded professionals from many LMIC countries share their challenges in deploying and teaching radiology and informatics. Of course, RSNA is where everyone gathers, although there is never enough time to meet and see everything.

I am looking forward to ECR in Vienna, which is by far my favorite conference city, for the food and music and for meeting up with many of my European colleagues. I am also proud to discuss the case study in the accompanying article. This is a true success story, although, as with each install, there were many lessons learned. We’ll be trying to connect dental and ophthalmology on our next trip in April, making this one of the first true enterprise PACS systems in Africa! More on that after I come back.
